Episode 21: Manganiyars of Marwad

Also known as ‘musicians for the people’, the Manganiyars are predominantly settled in the districts of Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner and Jodhpur, in the heart of the Thar Desert. Their repertoire ranges from ballads about the kings to poems and hymns of devotion written by various mystics. Even though they are known as folk musicians, the traditional music of the Manganiyars clearly indicates having its roots in classical music in India. The rawness of the folk juxtaposed with the complexities of classical music is what makes their music so special. The Manganiyar community claims that even a newborn when it cries, it is in rhythm and harmony. The episode is special because just this one time we have moved to being an evening performance, starting with the evening aarti followed by music and ending with a traditional prasadi (dinner) being served to each person who comes in to attend. 

The Momasar Ensemble includes a team of the following Manganiyar artists: Manzoor Khan, Bhugra Khan, Latif Khan, Bhutta Khan, Nehru Khan, Safi Khan. While most Manganiyar performances are of folk/ classical music, the Momasar Ensemble is a specially-curated devotional music set performed by Manganiyar artists. This never-seen-before performance will bring forth a new dimension of the music of the Manganiyars.

This musical evening began with the beautiful bhajan Janam Thaaran Baatan Me Beet Gaya, which was followed by Mhe to Amli Har Re Naam Ri. It progressed with another mind-blowing melody Are Sakhi Mangal Gaao Ri and Mann Laagyo Mero Yaar Fakiri Main. These overwhelming performances ended with the bhajan Helo Mharo Saanwle. The audiences were encaptured in the astonishing melodies by such prominent and versatile artists. The evening was made more beautiful with their breathtaking amalgamation. The event concluded with the delicious prasadi (dinner), which was served afterwards.
सोल कनेक्ट एक्सपीरियंस की ओर से मंदिर श्री राधा सरल बिहारी जी में सुगम संगीत कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया गया। मारवाड़ के मांगणियारों ने इस रविवार की शाम को मंदिर में प्रस्तुति दी। श्री भुट्टा खां और श्री हाकम खां ने, मुख्य गायक के रूप में, श्री मंजूर मांगणियार ने ढोलक पर, श्री भूंगर मांगणियार ने खड़ताल पर, श्री दादे खां ने गायकी और तंदूरे पर, और श्री लतीफ खां ने मोरचंग और भपंग पर संगत की। इस संगीतमय शाम का आगमन एक खूबसूरत भजन जनम थारां बातां में बीत गया से हुआ। इस मनमोहक कार्यक्रम का समापन सखी मंगल गाओ री, मन लाग्यो मेरो यार फकीरी में और हेलो म्हारो सांवले जैसे भजनों के साथ हुआ। ऐसे बहुमुखी कलाकारों और उनके लुभावने सामंजस्य ने इस शाम को और अधिक सुंदर बना दिया। सोल कनेक्ट एक्सपीरियंस की 21वीं श्रंखला का आयोजन मंदिर श्री राधा सरल बिहारी जी में किया गया।
